As I have mentioned before, I am reading through Revelation at the moment, scary as it is, I am loving the small references that speak so loudly into the lessons and challenges that I am learning from God everyday.
One such small detail is the ‘Little Scroll’. In Chapter 10 of Revelation, just before the final trumpet is sounded and the whole earth is under God’s reign, the ‘Mighty Angel’ decends to earth holding a tiny scroll. I can just imagine the biggest, most powerful, most feared angel in all of heaven and earth, holding a tiny scroll in the palm of his hand. I have mixed emotions when it comes to this, it is funny to imagine the contrast between the giant angel and the itty-bitty scroll but also the awe that comes when you realise that contained in that tiny scroll is the entire word of God. The word of God, so filled with wonder, so filled with power and this angel, that will unleash the final plans of God, holds it in the palm of his hand.
The next part is a call from heaven telling John to go down, take the scroll from the angel and eat it. It was sweet to taste and sour in his stomach. Odd, I know but at least its a cool way to get the word of God to be inside of you. It is true that God’s word can be sweet and sour at the same time, we take the good with the bad, we accept the blessings and freedom from sin but with it must come the obligation to share the message that God has layer upon us.
“You must prophesy again about many peoples, nations, languages and kings.” Rev 10
I guess what I am trying to say is that no matter how massive God is, he will still be small enough to live inside of everyone of us but if we choose to take the ‘little scroll’ and ‘eat it’ we also must take the ‘sweet with the sour’ and take on the obligation to ‘prophesy again about many peoples, nations, languages and kings’.
Sounds like a daunting undertaking but I am confident it is the best meal you’ll ever eat.
