What does Easter mean to you?

So I have finished the readings (while finishing off more Hot Cross Buns than I care to disclose) and have done some thinking about ‘What Easter means to me’.

Here are the facts:

Friday: Jesus loves me, Jesus died on cross, Jesus who was without sin died for (and in) all sin and  shame for everyone in the world including me and you.

Saturday: The world was lost, the temple curtains laid torn, Hope was gone, The world was back to Old Testament distance from God, Jesus was dead.

Sunday: He is risen, The tomb is empty, Jesus has taken our death, He has taken our sin, He has been to Hell to pay our price and returned, He has overcome death.

Why?: Because he loves us more than we will ever understand.

Walking away from this Easter and towards the next I will be content in the knowledge that next year when asked ‘What Easter means to me’ I will be able to say:

‘Easter is the time that the perfect sinless son of God was sent to his death so that I may live in freedom from the sins that I too often make, he conquered everything that stood between me and a loving deeply personal relationship with God the Father.  His death, like his life, was all about love.  If his gift of freedom still wasn’t enough for me the gracious and generous God that he is had something else for me in the form of his Spirit to live forever in my heart and guide me every step of my life.  Jesus gave it all in love, Easter is the time I celebrate his immense love for me.’

16 “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.17 God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.” John 3

That is more than Just a thought.
