We all dream, whether its in bed asleep or when you get bored during my

music classes, whether they are big or small, everyone dreams.

I quite often dream when I’m asleep and more often than not I remember them all vividly, if I wake up during the night I can usually go back to sleep and pick up where I left off. I used to have ‘God dreams’ a lot, I would know things way before they happened, I have prayed and prayed for them to come back but they are getting rarer.

I am not a psychologist and I can’t tell you what dreams mean but I have had enough of them to form an opinion on my own dreams. I believe that what you dream about at night is related to where you are at in life and where your priorities lie. As it says in both Matthew and Luke:

‘A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart.’ Luke 6:45 NLT

I believe this to be true of dreams too. I don’t think you are bad person for dreaming bad things but I do believe that the things we store in our hearts hidden from all but God have a baring on our thoughts. I have discussed this with Em and she disagrees because she gets all sorts of weird and wonderful things in her dreams but I think (illness, medications and other external sleeping factors excluded) that we dream where our heart is at.

If you think back over your dreams of recent times what do they tell you.

  • If you are stressed with so much to do in life, do you dreams reflect that by being chaotic and rushed.
  • If you are juggling too many things at once, are your dreams random and jump from place to place suddenly.
  • If you are more relaxed and get a decent amount of sleep, do you dream of holiday destinations or the things you desire.
  • If you hang out with someone a lot, do they become your main offsider in dreams.
  • (I don’t want to even try explain why we have sexual dreams in fear of offending and incriminating)

I don’t presume to be an expert in assessing dreams, God gave that gift to Joseph not to me, but I know that when I am right with God, my dreams reflect it.

I find it fascinating to hear peoples dreams, some I just step back and say ‘Yep you are nuts’, some I can really see where there life is at and it makes so much sense.

The original intention for this blog subject was to say that I think God speaks to us in our dreams about where we need to reassess our lives, it’s often the only time he can get a word into our busy lives, and he take the chance just in case we’ll listen then. Just when I think I am right with God, I dream something and my eyes are opened as to a blairingly obvious part of my life that he wants to shine a light on, I often feel like I need to apologise for my ‘dream life’ because it isn’t fully submitted to him. I know I can’t control my dreams, but I do think it is all connected. I hope I won’t have to answer to God for what I did in my dreams but just in case I do I will be doing everything I can to make them right be him.

Just have a look at what your dreams are saying, if there are some weird ones then thats ok, if they are repetitively weird all the time maybe you just need to start taking note and just ask if it means anything.

“If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.” James 1:5 NLT

“For God speaks again and again, though people do not recognize it. He speaks in dreams, in visions of the night, when deep sleep falls on people as they lie in their beds.” Job 33:14-15 NLT

There are plant of verses that say that dreams are worthless and give false authority to those that misinterperate them but if God wants to speak to me through a dream I’m going to listen and let him shine his light so I can serve him better.

All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed. But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants.” John 3:20-21 NLT

Just a thought.
