Telemarketers of Jesus?

I got one of those dubious phone calls today, a number that I don’t know, a number not in my phones address book.  I am often really skeptical when I see a number I don’t know but I have to answer it, it could be something important, it could be Mum or Emma!!  It wasn’t, it was just a telemarketer from Optus wanting me to upgrade my phone plan and while I’m at it get an iPad too because I and such a valuable customer.

I don’t mind telemarketers calling me, they are just doing their job, sometimes I count too 3 and if they don’t speak I’m gone because they always have that transfer time while your name pops up on the screen so they can create their instant loving relationship with you.  My issue is not that they call, my issue is that they just don’t let go, it doesn’t matter how many times I say I am not interested they never just let me go.  I hate hanging up on people but sometimes they just won’t let go until they have said everything they need to say.  They don’t know me and my situation but they are quite happy to say ‘you really must take this opportunity’ to get a great deal because you are ‘such a valuable customer’ and it’s only for a ‘limited time’.  The truth is I don’t need it right now, If Optus continue to keep me onside and build a good and fair relationship, I will let them know when I do need something else and won’t be easily lead to another carrier.

I thought today that maybe we are the same when we speak to ‘Non -Christians’ we drive our point home over and over again, telling them they ‘really must take up this opportunity’ to accept Jesus into their hearts because ‘he loves them’ because ‘the end is near’.  All of this is true, at least to the best of our knowledge, but they may be in the same situation as me with a new phone, they know their is better out there but they don’t need it now and if we look after them and develop a relationship the time will come when they will chose for themselves but pushing will only cheapen the relationship.

It’s not us who saves anyway, Christ does the work, he has the timing.  Lead by example, develop relationship by modelling Christ, when they are ready they will turn to the one who ‘has that little something that everyone wants’ (and I’m not talking about an iPad), Let Jesus shine.

If you ‘walk the walk’, God will tell you when he wants you to ‘talk the talk’.

‘Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ.’ Eph 5:2 NLT

‘As you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him, and established in your faith, even as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.’ Colossians 2:6-7 ASV

‘Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.’ 1 John 3:18 NLT

Just a Thought.
