Kingdom Purpose

“Many are the plans in a persons heart,

but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”

Proverbs 19:21 (NIV)

gods-hand-and-heartI really love this verse, I have posted it a few times throughout my journey but it just has so much impact on me every time I read it. (I also love it because my wife gave me a photo frame with this verse written on it when we were dating, years ago)

There are a few things about it that stand out to me about it:

1. It encourages ‘dreaming’, striving for more, desiring what is better. “Many are the plans in a persons heart”.  If you know a little bit about me, I have many great plans, In my early days I often changed jobs backwards and forwards, even know I dream big dreams for the following day but never achieve them how I planned, and thats ok because I know the next day I’ll have another great idea of something different or a different way to approach what hadn’t succeeded the day before.

2. The second half of this verse is the bit that is really awesome, It states “but it is the Lord purposes that prevail”.  Notice it doesn’t say ‘Purposes’ (as it is often misquoted).  God only has one purpose… to bring his Kingdom to all his creation, hence that is our calling too, he will let us prevail in anything and everything if it brings about the Kingdom of God.

It’s more than a calling to ‘go out into all the world and make disciples’, it more than just ‘care for my sheep’, it’s more than get everyone to Heaven… it’s a calling to bring the Kingdom of God to Earth right now through your life, not keeping yourself ‘Holy unto death’. Bring the Kingdom your word and deed right now.

Just a Thought.
