A delightful album of Christmas favourites for the whole family, performed with power and classical gusto.
GENTRI: The Gentlemen Trio was established in June 2014 and is comprised of three highly trained tenors: Brad Robins, Casey Elliott and Bradley Quinn Lever. Pioneering a signature sound that can only be described as “Cinematic Pop,” the music of GENTRI is transfused with lush, epic orchestrations and rich, dynamic three-part harmonies all composed by the group’s producer Stephen Nelson.
‘Finding Christmas’ is Gentri’s first Christmas release, featuring multifaceted arrangements and lavish orchestrations blended with solid 3 part vocal lines, this album offers the perfect blend of musical engagement. With many of the favourite songs and carols as well as a beautiful original title track ‘Finding Christmas’ this album has a lot to offer.
With Christmas favourites such as a perfectly peaceful rendition of ‘Silent Night’, powerful version of ‘O Holy Night’, a brooding and clever arrangement of ‘What Child is This/I Wander as I Wander’ and an upbeat interpretation of ‘Little Drummer Boy’. With a few lesser recorded carols such as one of my favourites ‘I Saw Three Ships Come Sailing In’ this album does indeed add some extra selection to the carol choices this Christmas.
The orchestration and arrangement is the real star of this album for me, with such depth and vividness this lush accompaniment never overpowers or wrests the attention from the vocals but remains consistently prominent throughout the album. The vocal arrangement at times has all three vocal parts in unison (which is sometimes a little too much given the vibrato) but when they split the harmonies really soar and the music comes alive.
A really nice album for those of you missing the ‘Three Tenors’ of old. A really great education in musical excellence.
